Turning In/To Flowers
"A botanical dialogue between art and science that explores the heritage of flowers"
2018
From the website, "One of the results of the colonial process was to attempt to break the indigenous relationship with and connection to the land and to dismiss the value of indigenous knowledge of plants. A condition called "plant blindness", where we don’t see plants except as a landscape highlight is one symptom stemming from this break. The mis-idea of who flowers belong to is another. Under colonialism plants were renamed and reclassified and many aligned with a white identity. Through digital and live platforms this project aims to explore the conversation in a way that allows many individuals, particularly those from indigenous and African backgrounds, to share their memories and emotions of flowers".
